Food Truck (3rd & 4th Grade)

This is a good end of the year/sub lesson.  I got the idea from a Food Network magazine and the kids totally flipped over it.  I usually have students start by creating a menu but we didn't have time to this year.  The objectives are to fill the whole space, be creative, don't copy already established eateries.
The only bad thing is that the students didn't get to finish :(

Watercolor Bluebonnets (1st Grade)

WOW!  I was blown away at the mad skills my 1st Graders have for watercolor!  Look at these AMAZING watercolor bluebonnets they created for their Texas themed PTA program!!!  I mean, come on!  They are truly BEAUTIFUL!!!

First we talked about how the bluebonnet is the state flower, and pointed out the parts of the bluebonnet.  Then we did a guided drawing.  I passed out watercolor crayons and we colored with warm and cool colors.  Then we painted with water.  After they were dry we outlined with black markers, and added a touch of white for the middle of our flowers.

OUTSTANDING work 1st graders!!!

Texas Flag Mosaic (1st Grade)

Our First Graders created these FANTASTIC Texas flag mosaics for their Texas themed PTA program.

First we talked about some Texas facts.  Then we talked about mosaics and viewed some examples.  Together we used rulers to draw our lines and students drew their stars in.

Next, I passed out some pre cut construction paper and glue and had students glue their squares on, making sure they didn't overlap.

I love them!

Butterflies (Kinder)

Here are some lovely butterflies Kinder made for their spring PTA program.

First we talked about the parts of a butterfly, metamorphosis and symmetry.

Then we folded a large piece of paper in half, we poured paint on one side and refolded the paper.  Then we carefully opened the paper and set it out to dry.

The next time we met I had the students fold their papers and draw a "B" then turned the paper to where the fold was on top.  Then we cut along our "B" line.  Next I gave them a toilet paper roll and had them glue that in the middle of our wings...explaining what symmetry is.  Then I passed out paint sticks and had students add decorations to their butterflies.

The results are amazing!  Please to enjoy some awesome butterflies!

Picasso Mural (Art Club)

I ordered the Ode to Picasso mural from http://artprojects.me/ (one of my favorite sites for lessons and inspirations) for the 5th grade art club.  They LOVED painting this and really enjoyed seeing it pieced together and on the wall.  I really dig it too.  Good job art clubbers!

Line Armadillos (1st Grade)

1st grade needed some art for their Texas themed PTA meeting, what is more Texan than an armadillo?  Seeing that it's the state small mammal, I thought it would be a perfect art project for them.
First we talked about the armadillo, then we talked about lines and patterns.  I demonstrated how to draw an armadillo then had the students add a background, lines and patterns.  Here are some of their creations!
